  • Who is FieldAR for?
Anyone who wants to link Building Information Models (BIM) to real-world construction sites or finished buildings can use FieldAR to leverage precision augmented reality for verifying accuracy of systems installation, as-built conditions, and QA/QC. Ideal clientele are: Construction Management companies or General Contractors BIM/VDC Teams MEP Trade Contractors Commercial/Residential Real Estate Developers Architects and Engineers Facilities Management Custom Home Builders Infrastructure and Industrial Builders
  • Is there a Free Version or Trial?
Yep! Anyone can register for a free account, and start scanning QR code targets at your jobsite to view your BIM/3D models in Augmented Reality. For BIM/3D model managers, your free account let's you create 1 project, and upload up to 3 models. You can upload your models directly from the mobile app, or upload from Navisworks and Revit by downloading the plugins. More integrations are coming soon! Each model upload will generate a unique QR code target that you can print and install at your construction site, so anyone on your team can view your model in AR for free. For more info on our Enterprise subscription, which offers unlimited model uploads, a-la-carte projects, team collaboration features, and advanced AR tools, see our Pricing page! • How does the model align to the real world?
For BIM/3D model managers, there is a one-time setup process where the app generates a QR code target. The FieldAR mobile app has an optional cloud anchor placement tool that the model manager can use to align the model to the real world. Once the cloud anchors for the model are created, the FieldAR mobile app will automatically detect the cloud anchors in the physical location, and begin aligning the model for any other user who scans the QR code target. During the model setup process, you will be prompted to specify a location for the QR target in your model, which will be the location where you should install the target at the jobsite. The FieldAR mobile app has a QR target placement tool that will help you place the physical QR target while on site. The model will be positioned relative to the target, and will be aligned but not very accurate at this point. The FieldAR mobile app has a sophisticated real-time alignment algorithm that uses cloud anchors to link your model to the real world as the cloud anchors are discovered. After creating your model, you can optionally specify at least 3 anchors using the Anchors tool. Anchors are model/world pairs, and the Anchors tool will prompt you to specify a location in your model, and the same location in the real-world to be linked. Once you've set up cloud anchors, your model alignment will be extremely accurate, even while walking around the space. • Does FieldAR work on tablets? What about AR goggles?
The FieldAR mobile app is designed for both smart phones and tablets, and has both portrait and landscape modes which auto-activate when you tilt your device. The mobile app as been optimized to work great even on lower-end devices, such as the Google Pixel 6a (which costs around $200). Since our primary mission is to get AR+BIM in the hands of everyone at your jobsite, we've taken tremendous efforts to make every tool in the FieldAR mobile app as optimized as possible, for almost any smart phone/tablet. Smart phones/tablets with LiDAR sensors can benefit from certain tools within the FieldAR mobile app, such as the built-in mesh scanner tool. The mesh scanner enables users to scan their environment and create a mesh, which can be linked to field markups and loaded back in the Navisworks and Revit plugins. For AR/VR goggles, we currently have a build in the works for Apple Vision Pro, but we have our hesitations for publicly releasing it just yet. Safety on construction sites is mission-critical for us, since anything that distracts workers can become a safety concern. This is especially the case for AR/VR goggles, which can completely obstruct vision and become very dangerous. For this reason, we've decided to focus our efforts on building FieldAR for mobile devices first. In the future, we will continue exploring applications of AR/VR goggles, and continue this discussion with the FieldAR community.
  • How does pricing work for teams?
The FieldAR pricing model is very simple. If you or your company wants to host an AR project with FieldAR at your jobsite, you can purchase Enterprise project tokens individually from your dashboard. We offer both Monthly and Yearly tokens that you can add/remove from your subscription at any time, and the tokens are reusable. For example, if you have a job that lasts 3 months, you can archive/delete the project, and reuse the token for your next project. We've designed the token system to be as flexible as possible for any type of project. The Enterprise subscription also comes with Admin accounts, which enable you to assign team members to upload 3D models and manage the project. Any team member at your jobsite who wants to view a 3D model in AR can do so for FREE by downloading the FieldAR mobile app, and they simply scan any QR code target at your jobsite.
  • What is the role structure? Who can edit projects, models, and manage team members?
Project collaboration tools are available to Enterprise customers. Upon purchasing Enterprise projects, the FieldAR system will create a company for you, and assign you as a company Admin. This Admin role will allow you to manage your company information, project data, models, and team members. As a company Admin, you can also promote other company team members to have the Admin role. You can invite co-workers to join your company, and assign them to projects with the following project-specific roles: Manager Can edit project information, create/edit/delete models, and can assign other company team members to the project Editor Can create/edit models, but cannot delete. Editors cannot edit project information or team members Viewer Can only view project information and models, either on the jobsite or the FieldAR mobile app. Viewers cannot edit any project or model information For a step-by-step tutorials on Enterprise features, visit our Learning Center.
